Megaman 9, Crysis Warhead

I've been playing a bit of Megaman 9 on the Wii, it's the first game I’ve purchased on the Wii in a long time. I was holding out for the 360 version but decided I would put my Classic Controller to use on the Wii, since it has the superior D-pad. I've actually got my Wii hooked up to a Standard Definition television so the NES nostalgia is pretty authentic. I really like how the game even emulates the sprite flicker found in NES games from that day, that's just so cool.

The only Megaman game I owned was for the GameGear, so my experience with the series is limited to that and Megaman 7 for the SNES. I do remember playing a Megaman game on the NES, but I can't for the life of me remember what one it was. I remember being able to mess with the game if I pushed some buttons on the second controller... Anyways, I knew what to expect in terms of difficulty, but I found the game to be a bit easier than people made it out to be:

There is clearly something cool about 8-bit graphics today. Earlier in my life I couldn’t really appreciate them, today there is something almost cute about them:

I also played through Crysis Warhead, on the 3rd hardest difficulty, 4 being the hardest, and was very pleased by it. It ran great the entire time while looking amazing, and while the environment was more "focused" this time around (read: linear) I had more fun running around them. There was definitely a ton of more environments compared to the first, the first game felt like it recycled a lot of stuff, this game felt much more varied. It was a fantastic game head to toe, a massive improvement compared to the first in my opinion. The situations you have to deal with in this game are so well thought out, you can tell the developers spent hours “tweaking” the environment just right when you face off against tanks so that there was just the right amount of cover vs. open space.

Honestly playing this game just makes me sad because I know this kind of “big budget” first person shooter will soon be restricted to the consoles, and I’ll have to retire my keyboard and mouse, and the “superior” hardware you can acquire a few years after a consoles release. I’m probably over-reacting; I just really hope that interest in the PC doesn’t disappear, that would be a real shame.
