I remember playing this game on the Atari 2600, or maybe it was on apple][, even at a young age i could certainly appreciate the technical achievement that was vector graphics, but i hated the game. Playing it today, i find that i still hate it.

I was breezing over the wiki page when i found some funny myths about the game, myths that you know could only come from gamers in the 1980s;
"There was a persistent rumor/myth that one could actually drive to the erupting volcano in the background, up the side, into the crater and discover a castle inside."
I also like this one:
"A similar rumor insisted if one kept driving in the same direction for at least an hour without dying, one would eventually reach the mountains and see a "tank factory" pumping out enemy tanks."

I've been playing Ikaruga on X-box Live arcade, and have slowly been learning the 5 levels. I think Greg Kasavin puts it best. This video of a player controlling two ships is both entertaining and impressive:
