Age of Conan

Today Funcom had a technical stress test for their upcoming MMO Age of Conan. This was the first beta i've participated in, and i think it's safe to say that my experience was very typical. The test lasted 3 hours, it's main purpose was to put as much stress on a server as possible and to test out the trading system.

Unfortunately the game was a technical mess, which was to be expected. I was able to gain control of a character for a few minutes, however this character had no head or feet, and was spawned outside the designated play area meaning i needed to start over again. This was the one and only time i was able to get past the character creation screen, which means i was able to get further than most.

Generally everyone had the same problems, the character creation is busted, but i think the game client itself is fairly stable.

The response on the beta forums, from people who did actually get into the game and play up to level 5, was a good response. They enjoyed the combat and said that the voice actors for the quest NPCs were good.

Funcom will be hosting a PvP beta weekend on April 18th to April 20th, whether us tech testers get into it by default or sign up for it again is still up in the air. I signed up for it just to be safe, I'll find out if i'm in it on April 16th.
